Matt is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham.
He received his DPhil (2015) at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Prof. Andrew Goodwin on the characterization of disordered framework materials. He then took up a Research Fellowship at Sidney Sussex College at the University of Cambridge, where he worked with Prof. Clare Grey in the Department of Chemistry, before moving to the University of Nottingham in 2018 as the inaugural Hobday Fellow.
When not doing experimental science, Matt enjoys experimental music, food and videos.

jem.pitcairn[at]nottingham.ac.uk
Jem is a PhD student investigating low-dimensional metal-organic magnets, with a particular focus on air-sensitive synthesis and neutron scattering studies of linker bridged metal-chloride chains. He joined the Cliffe group in October 2019 having previously worked as a research associate in the Materials for Applied Surface Science team at Illumina. Jem graduated from the University of Sheffield with an MEng in Materials Science in 2017. For his Masters’ project he studied the stress control of magnetic domain motion in ferromagnetic nano-wires with Prof. Dan Allwood.
Outside of the lab Jem is a keen Judo practitioner and plans to finish his PhD as both a doctor and a black belt.

Maddie re-joined the Cliffe group as a PhD student in October 2020, after doing a MSci project (18-19). Her studies concentrate on the magnetic properties of metal thiocyanate frameworks and how they can be controlled through doping the structures with alternative metals. She has a focus on neutron diffraction measurements, so she is based at the Institut Laue-Langevin neutron research centre, where she is co-supervised by Dr Laura Cañadillas-Delgado.

andrew.jones[at]nottingham.ac.uk
Andy is a PhD student in the CDT in Sustainable Chemistry, with a background in a Green Chemistry from the University of York. His research focuses on creating single atom catalysts on MOF supports, using defect sites to stabilise the catalyst atoms.
Outside of Chemistry, he is a keen chef, enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is a big fan of MMA
